01 / Living with the landscape

The studio

A place to feel part of the landscape.

The first shade beneath a tree. Breakfast on the terrace. The scent of herbs beside the kitchen door. A garden begins with simple moments. Selvara Studio brings them into a coherent design, connecting home, people and nature through spaces that feel intuitive and materials that gain character with time.

We start by looking at what is already there: the aspect, the soil, a view worth keeping and trees with a presence of their own. From there, we work on proportion, movement and planting. Every choice has a purpose, from the position of a seat to the plant that holds the garden together in winter.

Our visual language brings pale stone, deep greens and quiet details into balance. It might become an intimate courtyard, a roof terrace or a garden open to the countryside. Each design responds to its setting, your everyday habits and the time you would like to spend caring for it.

Services

From a first idea to the seasons ahead.

A complete landscape or a carefully focused intervention. We can begin with a garden that needs a new direction, an empty terrace or an established space that would benefit from a more considered balance.

Pools and outdoor living

Water, surfaces and planting become part of one landscape. We consider places to relax, edges and connections with the garden, including how the whole composition is seen from inside the house.

Projects

Four ways to live with nature.

A collection of design studies exploring different possibilities. These concepts and their generated images express the studio’s aesthetic direction; they do not represent completed commissions.

Corte degli Ulivi

A mature olive tree anchors a courtyard of pale stone. Aromatic planting and sheltered seating leave room for the light and for a slower daily rhythm close to home.

Above the rooftops, planting creates a gentle boundary. Grasses, generous planters and a protected dining area turn the terrace into an open room beneath the sky.

Our perspective

A pleasure to look at. A place to live.

Why Selvara

The setting comes first

We look before we add. A view, a tree or an existing wall can provide the starting point, giving the design a connection to the place rather than imposing a ready-made image.

Your routines shape the space

Eating outside, reading in the shade, welcoming friends and growing herbs call for different decisions. We begin with the activities you would like the garden to make possible every day.

A considered palette

A small number of carefully chosen materials creates continuity. Samples and visual references help us discuss colour, texture and the relationship with the existing architecture together.

Growth belongs in the design

Plants will not stay as they appear on the first day. Spacing, mature dimensions and seasonal changes are considered from the outset, alongside the care that the planting will need.

Shared decisions at each stage

Each stage brings a different choice into focus: layout, materials, planting or details. The process makes alternatives easier to understand and keeps the design close to the agreed priorities.

The process

A first look becomes a living space.

A clear process leaves room for imagination. We begin with what matters to you, then develop the design through recognisable stages before moving into the smaller decisions.

  1. 01

    Listen

We gather your wishes, photographs and everyday habits. A single image or feeling can help explain the atmosphere you are looking for and how you hope to use the space.

  2. 02

    Read the setting

We consider the aspect, access, existing planting and connections with the house. Surveys and further investigations are identified according to the particular needs of the project.

  3. 03

    Explore a concept

Paths, volumes and materials become an initial proposal. Drawings and references make the proportions visible and help establish a direction that we can develop together.

  4. 04

    Develop the design

Planting, surfaces, furniture and details are brought into focus. The different areas of expertise are coordinated around the composition within an agreed scope of work.

  5. 05

    Follow the seasons

Care guidance helps the space settle in and evolve. Observation supports an understanding of its growth and makes it easier to plan what may be needed next.

Spaces

A landscape for every setting.

We explore the relationship between indoors and out, from a compact court to an open garden. Scale and activities may change; attention to the character of the place remains.

Villas and private homes

Gardens that extend the life of the house and frame its outlook. Entrances, social spaces and quieter corners are connected through paths, trees and a consistent approach to materials.

FAQ

Let’s start with your questions.

Can I begin without a clear idea?

Yes. Photographs, a plan of the space and a description of your daily habits are a useful start. The first conversation helps distinguish wishes, practical needs and possibilities that are still open to exploration.

Do you also consider small terraces?

A design can focus on a compact space. Scale changes the solutions, but makes proportion, circulation and planting choices especially important. We can discuss the level of detail that would be useful for your setting.

Can existing plants be retained?

The plants already present form part of our initial understanding of the site. The design considers which elements to build upon and which may need specialist assessment, without assuming that everything must be replaced.

How is a budget established?

We begin with an approximate range and your priorities. Materials, plant sizes and possible phases can then be compared to develop a proposal that relates to the resources available.

How long does a design take?

That depends on scale, complexity and the information available. The proposal sets out stages and indicative timings, distinguishing the design process from the later work involved in bringing it to life.

Could the garden be created in stages?

An overall design often helps organise work over time. Priorities can be considered alongside the relationship between different works, site access and the future development of the planting.

How are plants selected?

Appearance is considered alongside aspect, soil, available space and your expectations for care. The composition also looks at mature dimensions and the role of each plant through different seasons.
